A Summer's Dream
An Unexpected Love Story
Ashley, a girl from Texas, is spending the summer with her aunt and uncle at their lake house in New Hampshire. She hopes her summer vacation is relaxing and fun and helps her keep her mind off her recent breakup. As summer continues, Ashley unexpectedly meets a young man who helps her find her true self once again. This book is meant for teens and young adults who love a good 'Hallmark' moment. This story has everything from comedy to romance to a tear-jerker. As the name suggests, this happens during the summer for a classic take on a young romance. Does she choose the young man and get her happily ever after? Or did she decide to go back to Texas and stay by herself? Texas or New Hampshire. The flowers in the mockup hint at the story's plot.
The cloudy sunset references the summers in New Hampshire and the whole base of the book. The lake house in the forest is meant to be "Ashley's" uncle's summer house. The young man who fell on the ground is her love interest, and he has lost since he fell for her at first sight. The girl, front and center, is the book's main character, "Ashley." I changed the coloring on the words Summer and Love to immediately draw attention to them. Considering it is the main point of the book. The font was easy on the eyes and still fit with the feel and vibe of the book. The color theme is meant to be very light and romantic, plus passion. Putting the two characters so far apart is to show that they don't get together right away.
This sketch is more of a rough draft. I did the rough draft to put my thoughts on paper so I knew exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted both characters on the front cover. I knew I wanted the background to be related to New Hampshire. Yet, at the same time, it gives a summertime feel. I wanted the spine and back cover to be more mellow and not overwhelming. A calming spine and back cover are easier to read and understand. The placement of everything has an easy flow for the average reader. I wanted the front cover to tell a story that gets the reader's attention. I wanted this to be a book that everyone included. Myself that I would pick up in the middle of the book aisle. The colors of the sketch were to label where everything would go.
Thank You!!
