The Gorgons were three monsters of Greek mythology.
The most famous (and the only mortal) was Medusa:
He was beheaded by Perseus, and the blood spilled from her neck
gave birth to the winged horse Pegasus and to the giant Chrysaor.
The head of Medusa is also part of the Trinacria, the symbol of Sicily.
