In its long history, it served various useful functions, including the seat of the Szczecin Banner of the Knights and Hospitallers of St. Lazarus from Jerusalem.

In 1954, the Tower was entered into the register of immovable monuments.

The name of the Tower comes from the Maiden's Gate built in 1307 leading to the Cistercian nunnery.
