For this project, I was tasked with creating an editorial illustration and spread for an assigned article. First, I read the article and pulled out key ideas. Then, I started brainstorming from the list I created and started to visualize and conceptualize the the key ideas. I sketched ideas and put my sketches into illustrator. Once I had a final vector, I imported my illustration into InDesign and formatted the article to fit on a 2 page spread.
The article is titled "Is Modern Communication Distorting Our Relationship With God?" and focuses on how we communicate with others in this time period and how that has changed since biblical times. It also broke down how we view ourselves and others with the age of digital communication. Texts, emails, and social media has depersonalized communication. We unfollow those we disagree with and only see people as their profile on social media instead of seeing the intrinsic value they possess because they are made in the image of God. Ultimately, how we view others and interact with them is a direct reflection of how we view God, but because of the change in mode of communication, how we communicate with others is actually altering how we view God.
