Upside-town lamp
Cities, like human faces are all unique. Their uniqueness become obvious when observed from a bird’s eye view. The only minutes of real and free pleasure low cost airlines provide are the ones during take off and landing when reaching the clouds streets become veins and arteries of an organism with an hypnotic aesthetic.
The Upside-town lamp is an attempt to transfer the language of this aesthetic with its related emotions, feelings, and values into a into a physical object.

La lampada Upside-town, utilizzando come veicolo questa estetica, prova a convogliare sentimenti, emozioni valori altrimenti incomunicabil, all’interno di un oggetto comunicabile.
The lamp projects the lights of a city on the opposite standing surface.
The circular strip all around provides a source of light on the side of the lamp. It was inspired by the aircraft windshields.
Upside-town lamp is customizable, the user can point any spot in the globe, provide longitude and latitude and get a custom disc based on the exact location she wants.
What makes this pendant lamp different from the other is the central disc, depicting the lights of a city viewed from above at night. The process of punching the holes into the surface, starts from the generation of a cad file that can be used with either a laser cut machine or a cnc mill.
1)In Open Street Map we choose a portion of a city map in the globe and take record of latitude and longitude.
2)Using Tilemill we remove all the street names, text etc.
3)We style the map in order to have only a 2 colours one.
4)we export the file as a vector and process it in illustrator until we are happy with the density of the dots and readability of the map and generate the cad file.
