Type as form project focuses on the role of letters and showcases the shape, value, history through different typefaces represented in a 2D graphic representation, transformed into 3D object. The challenge was combining the shape, history, use and value of a letter with the shape, history, use and value of a typeface in a meaningful way.
STORY
The Mix of Cultures project showcases the combination of Helvetica typeface with the arabic translation of Helvetica, Neue Helvetica Arabic. This project is symbolic that it will bring us back to historical, political and social events in Lebanon.
Typeface Overview
Helvetica originally from Switzerland developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger, is a neutral typeface that is easy to read. Max Miedinger's goal was to design a new sans serif font that can compete in the Swiss market, as a neutral font. On the other hand, Helvetica Neue Arabic is the arabic translation of Helvetica, originally from Lebanon developed in 2009 by Nadine Chahine, this typeface is a melding of aesthetic and technical refinements that result in improved legibility. Lebanon was formally known as "the Switzerland of the East". After the crises a new government was formed, led by the popular former general Fouad Chehab. Until the early 1970s. Lebanon was dubbed " the Switzerland of the Midddle East" for its unique status as both snow-capped holiday destination and a secure banking hub. The combination of the Swiss typeface with the Lebanese typeface showcases the story of Lebanon in the past.
