Wood craft - What I can make

its shaping up
close up and see the black lines.
Wip of a sculpture piece
i made this teapot on the lathe back in 1999. Still one of my most loved pieces. Ill never part with. Except to my kids.
This was one of my first pictures of my lathe before it was up and working. It was given to me from a friend. It was his grandfathers and he wanted it out of the house, but going to a good home. Im so lucky to have had the friend.
Tight joints ....Im always in search of pefection. Some days you have to just let it go, and others you have to try not to explode from the pride of getting the edge perfectly tight.
Made of Cherry and white Maple - Named the candle box. Garry Lewis made this in 1998
The project directive was to make a box to hold a candle. Of course this was a furniture design course so I couldnt take the instructions and the example of a simple wooden box with candle wax melted into it at face value. I felt the idea of a box enclosing the wax limited the ability to get light out. Also i structured the wood to block certain areas to give shape to the light and shadows.
My first project ever on the Lathe in school about 1997. Doing the rign from the same piece of wood was what hooked me on using the lathe. Its still the favorite tool in my shop. I now have my own lathe.
