RN A Master's Work

Akira Toriyama (1955-2024) was a Japanese manga artist, animator and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration.
I have made a piece inspired by what are referred to as "eyecatches," which are short bumpers that play before and after a TV series (typically anime) switches to a commercial break. Below is an example taken from the Dragon Ball anime:
The eyecatch I created is not taken from a video game Toriyama has worked on, however I tried to capture the feeling and the aesthetics down to the simple background and silly character interactions based off the 2001 video game Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.
I drew each frame in Clip Studio Paint and compiled them in Adobe Premiere. The music arrangement is an original piece created by game composer Anton Corazza, which features a leitmotif heard in the track "Going to Lunatea" on the Klonoa 2 soundtrack.
