Needs: Three months before the launch of its newly redesigned Web site (and with limited developer resources), The Seattle Times decided to refresh its mobile app for iPhone and iPad...and wanted the app to be released within two weeks of the new Web site's launch.
Solution: The company clearly needed a light, fast response in order to get their app cleared by Apple in time for their desired release date; we would reserve more advanced features for future releases. So, to speed the design process, the body of the app is a simplified, selectively-adapted version of the main Seattle Times Web site. To ensure that the app was not delayed in Apple's month-long review process for any reason, we wrapped the body in an extremely simple header and footer, keeping UI elements as standardized as possible. Within two months, we had finallized the app (and made our deadline).
