The Anti-Valentine

The Anti-Valentine

A zine informed by the humourous and satirical definitions of The Devil’s Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce.

Love Stinks

The idea was that each issue would embody definitions from the Devil’s Dictionary surrounding chosen themes. The theme for the first issue was ‘Love’ and was inspired by an early 19th-century ‘puzzle purse’ valentine, which includes two of the dictionary definitions. The first is presented as a riddle to be answered in the following issue, and the second is love itself. The whole thing folds out into a poster.

The colour gradient and matrix-styled typeface have been chosen to mimic the heartlessness of the descriptions. After all, you won’t find any loving endearments in this anti-valentine!
