"Doon Dagdi"
User Study and Interface Design

The presented project details extensive user research conducted to assess the landscape of local cultural activities in Dehradun, emphasizing the necessity for promoting and facilitating services to enrich both tourist engagement and local experiences. The culmination of this study advocates for the development of a dedicated application aimed at promoting these activities. This initiative includes the design of a user interface that adheres to UI principles, information architecture, and user experience best practices. The research adheres to the Double Diamond approach, a structured method for tackling design challenges. This methodology involves four key stages: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver.

Background of the Problem

Conducting User Surveys and Interviews
2 online surveys were conducted targeting the the Residents of Dehradun and The tourists/potential visitors of Dehradun as well 6 user interviews with residents and tourists. The data was summarized and evaluated to come up with pain points and problems.

Analyzing the impact of the Problem
Post the User Interviews, surveys and identification of pain points, a list of consolidated pain points were developed to analyse the impact of the problems and to come up with user personas and perform empathy mapping.

Creating User Personas and Empathy Mapping

Based on the consolidated pain points and information from user interviews, User Personas were created post which empathy mapping was performed.

Defining the Problem
The absence of a centralized platform for local cultural events in Dehradun creates a disconnection between residents, visitors, and the city's vibrant heritage. This hinders engagement with the rich cultural activities the city hosts, highlighting the need for a unified source of event information to enhance community participation and appreciation.
Problem Statement

“A lack of centralized access to local cultural events in Dehradun leaves both residents and visitors disconnected from the city's vibrant heritage and culture.”

Customer Journey Map and Affinity Mapping
Based on User persona 2, a customer Journey Map as created and affinity mapping was performed. Below is the sorted data post affinity mapping.

Solution
A comprehensive digital platform for discovering and promoting community engagements to foster a stronger connection to the cultural pulse of the city.

Application Flow
Based on the derived data and comparative study of other such applications, a flow was determined keeping in mind the principles of information architecture.
Wireframes and Visual Identity
Wireframes were created for the major slides based on which the actual application was created. The logo, color palette and brand typeface were also chosen keeping in mind the aesthetics Dehradun is usually Associated with. Moreover, Illustrations/Icons were created to better the application experience.

The Application

This project was created as submission for the final jury of "User Research and Interface Design" during my 7th Semester at National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi under the mentorship of Mr.Shlok Nikhil.
