UNCONVENTIONAL PUBLISHING FORMAT

EDITION WORKSHOP
Small but mighty, that was the brief for our publishing workshop. We were asked to think of an object or subject that echoed the small-but-big duality. The aim was to experiment with the editorial object and question its limits. Goodbye standard formats, hello unconventional.

My colleague and I chose the internet and social media as our subject. We wondered how an endless amount of information is available in such a compact format, and that when unlocked, it vomits all its content. We also thought, why not make something digital printable, which is why we decided to make the publication in a iPhone format. With a ring binder to recall the swiping effect we do when scrolling through our social media feeds. We 3D printed the different "locked" screens that as time passes, shows how much we become solicited with notifications and messages. Once the phone "unlocked we are bombarded by information, most of which is not relevant at all.
All this to show the negative side of the internet, time being wasted on a screen, isolated looking at rampant messages that once you are done reading, disappear for ever.
Between some of the "pages", we even put in dividers with figures and data on the risks of using social networks to raise awareness among young people.

This project was presented at ECV's Open Day, and we were told that many young people were particularly interested by this specific project.
