Pomeranian Dukes' Castle

The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle is the historic seat of the Gryfit family, rulers of the Duchy of Pomerania, and a Renaissance castle located on the Castle Hill in Szczecin.
The origins of the castle date back to the 12th century, and are probably related to the foundation of Prince Warcisław, the first Pomeranian ruler from the Griffin dynasty.
The castle offers guided tours, concerts and exhibitions are organized in its courtyard, and its interior and surroundings are an interesting monument of culture and history.
The castle owes its current shape to its turbulent history. The five-wing building with two courtyards is dominated by the Bell, Prison and Clock towers.
The castle's facades are decorated with late Gothic tracery and Renaissance attics.
The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle is one of the landmarks of Szczecin and a characteristic building that is hard to miss when visiting the capital of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Until 1945, Szczecin was part of Germany, and after the liberation, the city became part of Poland, thus constituting part of the so-called Recovered Territories.
