Moscow in Smoke
familiar sites in unfamiliar circumstances
Last summer's (2010) wildfires in Russia covered Moscow in a thick blanket of toxic smog, reducing visibility and making the already hottest on record summer in Russian history, even more unbearable. I ventured outside to see for myself some familiar sites, disguised in smoke. This is what Moscow looked like on August 7 & 8, 2010.

[images with blue skies are for comparison, what Moscow looked like on July 13, 2010, when temperatures were just hitting above 86 F (10 degrees above normal), later rising above 100 F in the worst of the heat wave]
