The Silent Act - A Dialogue with Bahariya Oasis
The architectural design of the complex aspires to symbolize the dynamic and expressive nature inherent in both the oasis itself and its visitors. This performance is orchestrated by the interplay of natural elements within the oasis, including the Salt Lake, the natural topography, and the cultural identity it embodies. To dissect the components of this performance, the architects have embraced an environmental-centric approach, pinpointing the primary performance as the core leverage points within the ecosystem of the oasis. These leverage points encompass the functional opportunities intended to be seamlessly integrated into the oasis site, the environmental qualities intrinsic to the location, and the community and cultural identity embedded within the site. The interaction between these leverage points is meticulously crafted to establish a positive feedback loop, continuously contributing to the environmental sustainability and ecological balance.
In adopting this approach, the previously identified leverage points are categorized into performers and audience, each capable of interchangeably assuming roles throughout a singular experiential encounter. This intentional
interchangeability seeks to create a dynamic and harmonious relationship between the performance elements and those who partake in and shape the experience within this unique oasis setting.
Ground Floor Plan
a Stellar: A Celestial Camping
Celebrating the cosmic symphony performed above and the earthly embrace below. The celestial canopy the very stars themselves—arches overhead, casting their luminous glow upon the camping zone.
The camping site is purposefully positioned to embrace the natural choreography of wind, water, and land.
The lake encircles the zone from two sides. The topography, our silent collaborator, makes it secluded behind a high hill, away from noise and distractions, inviting stargazing and contemplation. The gradual extension toward the Salt Lake ensures panoramic views for all campers. Furthermore, the gentle slope allows steady camping and increases the safety of the campers, allowing a higher level of natural surveillance between all tents.
Adjacent to the camping grounds stands a service building. It houses essentials including utilities, showers, toilets, changing rooms, and a souvenir shop.
A Culinary Haven at the Peak
The proposed restaurant, perched atop the performative zone, emerges as a beacon of cultural exchange and gastronomic delight. Its strategic location ensures uninterrupted vistas, casting a watchful eye over the surrounding landscape. Beyond more sustenance, this culinary sanctuary serves as a nexus—a meeting point where diverse cultures converge.
Here, the Bahariya oasis cuisine takes center stage, celebrated on a floating structure. As patrons savor their meals, they are enveloped by the oasis’s performance through it’s natural elements—the rustle of wind, the play of sunlight, and the soothing murmur of water. The architectural design seamlessly integrates these performances, allowing diners to partake in the oasis’s essence.
Airflow and natural ventilation dance through the open spaces, while the sun’s rays paint the interior with warmth. The gentle symphony of water sounds accompanies conversations, creating an immersive experience for visitors. In this elevated haven, the restaurant transcends mere functionality. It becomes a conduit—a bridge between cultures, a canvas for culinary artistry, and a testament to the oasis’s enduring spirit. As patrons dine, they not only savor the Bahari flavors but also witness the landscape’s heartbeat—the pulse of life that animates this architectural marvel.
