The Annual Glen Doherty Memorial Road Race

The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation (GDMF) honors the legacy of the fallen hero it was named after. Glen Doherty died in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. GDMF assists special operations members and families in transitioning to civilian life by providing professional development opportunities. It also hosts an annual memorial road race.

The GDMF road race includes 5K and 10K runs that attract many participants and spectators. As the foundation’s premier outreach event, the race spreads awareness about GDMF’s mission. Most critically, it generates essential funds for career development and educational opportunities through scholarship programs. Qualifying current and former special forces personnel can apply. Many special operations members and families have benefited from these philanthropic gifts, which now total over $750,000.

On race day, participants gather at a central location to register on-site or pick up their preregistration packets before starting. Entry fees are just a few dollars, with lower prices for children. Distances of 5K and 10K offer options for casual community members and more serious runners. Those who finish the race receive free commemorative T-shirts and can stay to cheer on others. The race organizers also offer prizes to recognize the overall winners as well as the fastest groups.
