We received the invitation from Globo Condé Nast to embark on the journey of redesigning the iconic Glamour Brasil Magazine. Our new design system amplifies the distinctive writing style and conversational nature that defines Glamour Brasil's unique publication.

Central to our design approach was a deep appreciation for Brasilian concrete poetry, an influential artistic movement that first emerged in the mid-20th century through the pioneering efforts of the Noigandres group. This unique form of expression centred on the fusion of language and visual layout, resonated deeply with our mission. Like the poets who transformed words into visual art, we sought to make every page a canvas for meaningful conversations.

Informed by the spirit of Brasilian concrete poetry, our design transformed text into sculptural forms. We embraced the ethos of 'less is more' and a bold use of white space, creating a serene backdrop that allowed content to shine. This approach also honours the magazine's talented journalists, giving their words the space and prominence they deserve.

As part of the redesign, we created a custom display typeface ‘Glamour Brasil Sans’. A contemporary sans serif inspired by the early 20th century Art Deco movement found in early Brasilian fashion editorial.

Designed for various typographic scenarios, 'Glamour Brasil Sans' exhibits remarkable versatility. The inclusion of alternate Art Deco letterforms injects a sense of flair, allowing for creative variations that captivate the eye. Moreover, the implementation of nested diacritics ensures a smooth and harmonious setting for headlines and quotes. Lastly, a special set of overlapping ligatures was created to enable graphic stand-out in headlines. These details not only embody the magazine's essence but also offer practicality and adaptability across its diverse content landscape.
