Typographic Self-Portrait

Introspection With Calligraphy
This project is a typographic self-portrait depicting my outwardly
appearance on the foreground along with the lettering for my
true self hidden in the background.
PHASE 1
The first part out of 4 was to explore different textures using any tool of our choice. I chose a Table Tennis ball. (Don't worry, the ball is still usable). I dipped it in ink and went wild with the bouncing patterns and the result is here. Next, we had to annotate them with what the texture could convey
PHASE 2:
Pick words in any language we want that describes my:
1. Perceived self - What others think of me, and
2. Actual self - What I think of me.
PHASE 3
Then we proceed with putting that into letterform with a pattern.
The texture in the background is representative of the randomness that brings friends together while also making it unique in that it’s pretty much impossible to exactly replicate it. Furthermore, the subtlety of the word ‘unique’ symbolizes how any ‘odd’ characteristics quickly fades into the background of a friendship. The interlocking and aggressive letters are a connection with the bond that a friendship holds and the energy it carries. Also, the sloped nature of the perceived self represents the uniqueness of the bonding element between friends that grows into a friendship.
