Gino's Restaurant, led by Biagino (Gino) Mazza, opened in 1983 in Johannesburg. The family venture, including parents Guiseppe and Antonia and siblings Carmela, Maria, and Domenico (Dom), quickly became known for its exceptional pizza. Despite trends favoring northern suburbs, Gino's drew patrons from across the city, often resulting in long waits.

In the mid-90s, the Mazzas moved to an industrial area in Robertsham, establishing a central kitchen to support franchising. However, maintaining authenticity proved challenging, and the plan was shelved. Today, Gino's legacy continues through two family-run establishments. The original in Robertsham, run by Gino and Carmela with help from Gino's daughters and staff, remains charming. Babbo and Antonia, now retired, split their time between Italy and South Africa. The second restaurant, established by Dom in Stellenbosch in 1996, recently relocated to a historic building in Dorp Street.

Gino's, rooted in family values, serves consistently good, affordable food, priding itself on its non-trendy, family-oriented approach, ensuring it's more than a restaurant; it's a legacy of familial love.
