SUMMARY

For this project, we were instructed to compose an illustration that combined two randomized objects/places. With that, I was given Royalty which had to be placed above, around, on, or in a plane. As I was given this I had to create a visual that included both of these and be executed well in Illustrator.
IDEATION + SKETCHES
Step 1: At the beginning of this project we were given some time to come up with a multitude of ideas of what we could design in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 2: After sketching, we had to start limiting down what we thought would be the best version of our ideas and how well represented they were. After doing so, we drew the final sketch before designing on Adobe, of course, this had to be finalized by showing our professor who helped critique it.

These questions below were given for us to be able to explain our work:

1. What themes would you like to explore in this work?
Rather than the actual people being royals, I tried a different route in making them the royal cards.
2. What feeling(s) do you want to convey in this work?
Adventurous and playful
3. What imagery or visual cues will you use to communicate this feeling?
The cards giving the illusion of falling and them being a part of a game conveys a playful fullness, but also with the plane flying away there is a sense of where the plane is going, and what is happening to the cards.
3. Who is your protagonist (and/or antagonist)?
I would believe that there is someone in the plane who is throwing them out.
4. Is it necessary for us to see the protagonist to understand the story?
No, the visuals of the cards falling is what makes the story adventurous.
5. what events led the protagonist to this point?
The scenario is that this protagonist is angry with the winner, yet who says he's the winner if the cards are all gone? With that, cards “magically disappear” by being thrown out of the plane.
6. what might happen next?
With the cards gone, the protagonist starts to blame others for missing things, flying far and wide to the unknown, will they figure out who started it or will they all be blamed for what happens on the plane?
7. How can symbolism be used in this work?
In royalty, you have to play your cards right before you get flushed out.
8. What might your composition look like?
A plane flying away from us with a multitude of cards flying out. As they get closer and closer you can see that they are the royals of the cards.

WORK IN PROGRESS

For the first step of this project, I created the background by using the gradient tool in which I designed the visuals of the sky, with that same color palette I also created the clouds. The clouds were created from a multitude of circles they were formed together by using the Pathfinder tool. Once that was done I started working on the plane. It was my main focus before I started on the cards. As I did this, I first outlined the image and started giving it a gray background, followed by the small details that you will see later.

Next, I used playing cards that I found through the internet to help me draw these cards. I used the pen tool to create every part of the card. It was very tedious, but overall it gave me the look I was yearning for.

Once I finished one card, it made it easier to start copying and pasting them around the actual finished plane. I did so by distorting them by using bending tools to alter their state of them to make them look like they were falling from the plane. The plane now has a more accurate idea of flying away from us with the shading.

Lastly, I add finishing touches on the plane and cards with the pen tools and shape tool.

FINAL WORK

KNOWLEDGE GAINED
Through this, I found that I do love Illustrator more than I thought. Although I believe I could be more precise with the pen tool on small details, I found that it gets a lot easier and faster Avery doing it awhile. I was hindered by not using easier tasks that the app created for the betterment of what I needed, and used old techniques that made me take longer. Yet, my confidence overall has improved massively. As I've never worked with Illustrator before, I can see lots of improvement from the start.
