These business cards were made for the Stockport Public Health team as a way to promote low-level mental health services in the borough. Post-pandemic, the team were finding an increased prevalence in mental health issues, particularly in young adults, so effort was made to signpost to low-level services available 24/7.
These business card designs needed to stand out from other local messaging. We wanted them to be something that people would want to pick up and keep for whenever they needed it. At the same time, the business card size allowed them to be picked up and stored discreetly.
After creating a series of different designs, we engaged with young adults in the area to get a sense of which would work best. My 'hand drawn' illustration-style designs were the most popular, so a range of these were printed, including the subversive 'emoji poo' design, which was quite daring for a local council team, but received very positively by the target demographic.
Special attention was given to the wording used: 'anxious, stressed and low' was chosen as an alternative to any reference to mental health in order to avoid stigma and support those with lower levels of health literacy.
