Once More Without

Performance (Weaving in the loom)
156 x 156 cm

As the vernissage commenced, the visitors may have noticed a conspicuous absence, the work that was to convey the essence of absence was itself absent. Yet, this absence was not a void but rather a canvas awaiting transformation.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, Qose embarked on a deeply personal journey, weaving together threads of memory and emotion. Day by day, the loom within the gallery space transformed into a site of profound introspection and expression,
and the artist did not only crafts a physical artwork but also embarks on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and expression.

As the pattern emerged, so did the silhouette of a man, the artist's father, as a shadow falling on the surface of the kilim. His presence, or rather his absence, cast a shadow over the surface of the kilim, serving as a tangible reminder of the emotional and physical void left behind and also as a powerful visual metaphor for the lingering presence of absence.

Kilims are often associated with warmth, comfort, and the domestic sphere, making them a poignant choice to convey the theme of absence within the context of the home. The juxtaposition of the traditional craft with the absence of the artist's father further underscores the tension between tradition and change, continuity and rupture.
