K&M Wedding Invitations

K&M 2024 Wedding Invitations
Client Project
Design Brief
For this project, I had the opportunity to design wedding invitations. Since the client was my sister, I was honored to accept this task. The goal of this project was to design invitations that represented both the bride and groom’s personality and that effectively collides their chosen wedding colors and styles together.
Target Audience
These invitations were created to be sent to individuals of the bride and groom’s choosing to be guests at their wedding ceremony, or reception.
Problem-Solving
Creating a design was challenging in the beginning. I quickly discovered that researching, planning, and implementing design techniques to a client is important for success. Since the client was my sister, I thought that I could quickly create a design that she desired and would be pleased with without proper communication and design orientation like I do with my other projects. After a few failed attempts I finally realized my mistake and took the proper design precautions before designing again.
Hardware & Software Used
MacBook Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, & Adobe Photoshop.
Design Process
To start my creative process, I conducted visual research. After talking to my client, we settled on a country, but classy style. As the bride and I were discussing her wedding theme, she mentioned that she wanted her floral décor to be sunflowers. Since her colors were green and yellow, I thought that her floral theme would be perfect to place in the invitations to represent the wedding and décor.
Since the style was classic country, I decided that a script typeface would be perfect for the display type with a slab serif for primary type and a simple serif typeface for the body type.

After finalizing the type choices, I started to layout the design in Adobe InDesign. The bride and groom decided to have two invitations created. One for the wedding ceremony and another for the reception party since the couple planned on inviting more guests to reception. Both invitations were designed within a 5”x7” inch document with a margin of .25” and a .125” bleed.
After laying out the type I placed the artwork. I found the watercolor sunflowers on AdobeStock.com. After downloading and adjusting the color and background in Adobe Photoshop, I placed the image behind the text and turned the opacity down to 15%.
Output & Finishing
After finishing the layout of the design and sending and retrieving an approval of a proof to my client, I started the preflight process. I ensured that the images that I used were 300 PPI, assuring that when printed the photos would not be pixelated or distorted. I also made sure that the photos were in CMYK color mode for printing. After this I added the appropriate size of crop and bleed marks to create the PDF documents. Then I sent the documents to my client to order online from UPrinting.com in California, USA.
