CLT pods + Glulam Structure

CLT pods + Glulam Structure

In this case study, prefab CLT infrastructure pods are supported by a glulam structure. These modules are interleaved with the gaps - door, windows, floor and ceiling - where open cycle systems were used. Infrastructure pods are pre-defined. The same hydraulic pod can be applied in different types of design, with several possible spatial arrangements between the pods. But its internal configuration is the same. In the construction process, the company that manufactures the pods is limited to factory production, working on a product with possible serial production. The structure support and coverage are customizable according to the needs imposed, such as terrain, climate and program. In this study, a glulam structure was proposed. Working the idea of a same system that can be configured in different ways brings the possibility of paying attention to the specific issues of each site, such as terrain, climate, environment, program and inhabitants using the same constructive solutions that have already been previously developed. In this way, constructive details, interfaces between systems, types of connections and basic pods are reused and not reinvented with each new project. Customization takes place on site and inhabitants demands. Standardization, which is an important concept for the feasibility of pre-fabrication, is given in the constructive details, the interfaces between different systems, the connections and the types of pods developed.
