- Site Revival Center -
Kfardebian, Lebanon

The natural stone bridge in Kfardebian, shaped by the forces of nature, underscores the beauty of its pristine surroundings. This project aims to maintain the site’s authenticity, serving more as a symbolic integration with the landscape than just a functional space.

The key element mirrors the natural bridge's shape with a modern design, featuring an aerodynamic form and a central crater, resembling a bridge shaped by water. It fosters gatherings and appreciation of the heritage landscape, serving both as an art exhibition space and a viewpoint to the surroundings. This ring-shaped structure acts as a modern bridge, inviting visitors to explore its roof and serving as the project's main artery, connecting the various levels. The project respects the site's character, as secondary functions merge with the terrain and benefit from the ground's thermal properties for efficiency.

Visitors experience therefore a blend of spatial and sensory experiences, at times nestled within the rocks or elevated above the landscape, embodying the project's fusion with its natural setting.

CHOICE OF THE SHAPE:
The key element induces an Emotional and Sensory Journey
1- A striking white ring, placed centrally within the terrain, captures attention and highlights the project.

2- Maximizing the view on the outside, the ring shape hovers over the slope of the terrain, promoting the site's uniqueness. As an exhibition space, the exhibition goes beyond the artwork showcased and expands to the site itself.

3- Insetting the ring into the terrain from the higher side of the slope generates a space that's sheltered from direct sunlight, dedicated to  the artwork that needs controlled light. The adjacent Jurassic stones forming the terrain are kept virgin and enter the project, showcasing the uniqueness of the terrain inside and out.

EARTHWORKS WITHIN THE PLOT
1- Earthworks performed to level the terrain facilitate access and enhance the pedestrian experience of the project.

2- The inner courtyard - A meeting space where key elements of the site are echoed and honored.

3- Secondary functions are concealed within the earthworks. The top of the ring becomes accessible and walkable.
