SHINE PROJECT: Killjoys remastered

THE TRUE LIVES OF THE FABULOUS KILLJOYS: REMASTERED

- THE INSPIRATION: KILLJOY COMICS/MCR -

The inspiration for my comic was the comic book series named 'The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon. My own comic is a remastered version of those comics with my own original characters, cover and drawings. I chose these comics because i really like them, theyre some of my favorite comics i've read. Whether its the art style, story or characters in these comis, i love every part of them. Another reason i chose these is because one of the writers, Gerard Way, is the lead singer and frontman of one of my favorite bands. This band is My Chemical Romance. They made an album back in 2010 which these comics stemmed from. The album is named 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' from which the series got its name. I love the band, album and comic series. So choosing this for my SHINE project was perfect.

- CHARACTER DESIGN: MOODBOARDS -

The first thing i usually do when creating a character is make a pinterest board for them. this board is a moodboard of sorts to visualize my character. I add pics of everything i want the character to be, whether its their looks, clothes, personality, setting, or just anything that reminds me of them. I made these moodboards for my three characters too.

- CHARACTER DESIGN: DRAWING -

Once i have an idea of who my character is and how i want them to look, i start drawing. I draw the character themselves (usually from the shoulders/waist up.) I drew my characters heads + some additional important stuff about them. along with the drawings are also some random facts about them written in the corner. i kept those in mind when i designed them.

- THE KILLJOY PLAYLIST -

Along with the pinterest boards, another thing that i do to start building characters and the world around them, is a playlist. In these playlists i put songs that remind me of the characters or their story. For the Killjoys i added the album from which the original comic stems, along with some songs that remind me of my original charactes. Music is a very big part of my inspiration.

- ORIGIN OF THE COMIC PAGE DIALOGUE -

Ofcourse i still needed text for my comic page. Since the Killjoys comics stem from an album the band My Chemical Romance made back in 2010, I went back and took a look at those lyrics. I love that album and have listened to it countless times, so it wasn't hard to come up with something. The intro bit to the final song on the album called 'Vampire Money' always stuck out to me. So as soon as i thought of that intro i was like: ''Alright, perfect.''

I modified the text a bit to fit my original characters,

and then the comic page dialogue as you know it was born.
