Penguin Book Covers

Penguin Book Covers

Three alternatively designed book covers for a set of Penguin published novels.

Roald Dahl's 'James and the Giant Peach'

A concept based around childhood, the design was put together entirely from textures created from playschool activites, such as finger painting, butterfly printing and cutting card. Through this technique I was able to capture the chaos and drama of a child’s imagination yet display it in an orderly fashion for younger and older readers to appreciate.

Jennifer Echols' 'The Ex Games'

When girls hit their teens, generally they want to act older than they are. I felt the original Jennifer Echols’ novel covers were too childish and needed to be given a more ‘mature’ feel. Using the concept of linking hands to represent relationships, I set about portraying the books in a sparkling, seductive way, using deep colours and jewellery.

Jennifer Echols' 'Major Crush'

The same concept and execution as 'The Ex Games' was applied in the same fashion to 'Major Crush' in order to strongly link the two books and the author.
