Pedalsketch is an interactive installation that allows people to create art with a familiar object as the interface - in this case a bicycle. The person can pedal to move the cursor to create the art, steer to change it's direction and press brakes to change how the graphics generate or to slow down the cursor.

PedalSketch was a final year group project I was in for my BA in Creative Multimedia. My roles were:
Programmer: Programmed the visuals, UI and control system - rest of programming duties (grid system, image upload code and website) handled by secondary programmer.
Audio Engineer: Composed short ambient music for the project.
Outside of those roles, made avatars for the website, I assisted in the electronics for the bicycle and documented footage of the project.

The website is http://www.pedalsketch.com and a blog about my roles are here: http://2020designs.wordpress.com/category/ashley/

Programming:
These styles were all programmed in Processing, a langage that builds upon Java to make it more suited for artists and designers. All are generated purely by code, no external graphics used. I collaborated with the designer in the group to ensure that the aesthetics of the styles fit in with the overall objective of Pedalsketch.
Audio:
These are the short ambient pieces created for Pedalsketch. The purpose is to help inspire the people to create, and to be non-instrusive. Most of these were played live, and then recorded into FL Studio for processing/effects.
Avatars:
The avatars were made to have a low poly look, in accordance of the overall aesthetics chosen for Pedalsketch. Reference photos were took and then all imported into in Adobe Flash for the following process:

- Graw a grid of polygons over each photo, making sure each polygon was not more than 4 sides
- Colouring in based on the average colour inside each polygon.
- Removing the grid, leaving the filled in polygons behind
Footage:

These are some quick videos showing the project at a prototype stage, and a demonstration of it during the exhibition.
