Alien Helmet Prop Creation

Initial helmet design sketches I created to brainstorm what form and overall shape we wanted the prop to have, including options for materials we could use.
I sketched some alternative designs of the helmet with the crooked antennae. Design D was based on an original concept sketch by Director Ethan U.
We created the base of the helmet as a crew, twisting aluminum wires and taping them into a kind of zeppelin shaped skeleton.

I handled the rest of the creation of the helmet prop, first attaching and securing the adjustable construction helmet to the wire form, then building on layers of newspaper papier-mâché, wood glue, dry wall compound and multiple coats of acrylic paint.

The antennae was created using a modified paper bubble-tea straw with a crushed ball of aluminum foil glued to the tip. It was coated in tape, painted and secured to the helmet under the layers of dry-wall compound.
The Alien Helmet in all its glory, worn by our actor Lachlan. The jumpsuit initial concept was designed by the crew and tailored by Carlo's Mother.
