We were asked by British GQ Magazine to create a portrait of Chef Tom Kerridge for their Men of the Year Awards Issue. They were particularly interested in recreating what we did on our last photographic-illustration portrait of Chef René Redzepi, were we built his likeness out of food and kitchen utensils.
We started out by working out some very basic composition sketches so we could more or less define some proportions and decide how much elements and what kind of surface we would need to build his face on a table.
We finally did a more complete sketch in which we focused on deciding which dishes and food shapes worked better to fit into certain lines, volumes and shadows on his face.
