- PROCESS DOCUMENT -

I started off by filling in the process document. In this document I reflected on my previous assignment, the ambition project that you can find on my Behance page. And used that reflection to better this project.

I also brainstormed 3 ideas that I could do for my shine project, and chose the best one. These 3 ideas will be discussed under the brainstorm part.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- GROOW CHAIN -

the GROOW chain is used for planning every step I need to go trough in order to get to my destination. I explained every step of the chain in Dutch but I will translate the step to English once I get there. I also did not follow the exact order of the chain because the 3d model had to be made first in order to get everything done in time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- BRAINSTORMING -

as I had mentioned earlier I brainstormed 3 ideas in the process document. Those ideas were the following:

IDEA 1:  Making a creature that is capable of being in every game possible. Give the creature different outfits, emotions, and objects to fit the game. Show people that there are infinite possibilities with the character.

IDEA 2: Expand the monster from my ambition project by building a game concept specifically for the monster.

IDEA 3:  Expand the monster from my ambition project by giving it a backstory and an animation.

I ended up going with the first idea. Because the monster had infinite possibilities I had infinite ideas. I could do anything I wanted with the monster and it would still fit my idea.

- FEEDBACK-

In between steps it is important to ask for feedback from classmates or mentors.

My feedback was positive. She told me I picked the best idea, and she was excited for what I was going to make.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- INSPIRATION -
At first I wanted to expand on the creature from my ambition project. But it would give me some difficulties, because the 3d model I have of it has very small legs. Which could break when I 3d print it. And the character was very aimed towards the horror genre. So I ended up scrapping that idea.

I took inspiration from my 3 favourite alien characters you can see under this text, and went to work.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- CHARACTER DESIGN -
this is what the final character looked like. I wanted to go for a very neutral character with an original design that you can recognize anywhere. I chose a more humanoid character because that would make it easier for me to design the clothes later on. but I still left a lot of alien features from the inspiration.

I would put the different sketches of how I ended up with this character here too if I had those. I don't have them because I knew exactly what I wanted him to look like before I started creating it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 3D MODELLING -
I then started modelling the character in a program called Normad sculpt on my iPad. I used the first drawing as a reference and pasted it behind my mesh. The whole modelling process went surprisingly fast and only took me around 3 hours.

I scrapped the tail from the original drawing because I was scared it might break in the 3d printing process.
After that I painted the 3d model. I did not need to do this because the 3d print was going to be white anyway, but I still did it so I could use it as a reference for when I was going to paint the 3d model later on.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 3D PRINTING -
I exported my 3D model, scaled it, and send it over to the makerspace in my school as an STL file. They printed it out with one of their 3d printers. It had to sit in water for about a day to get all the support material off. Then I was able to take it home.
I painted it with acrylic paint. I did the eyes with a fine liner. I painted the paws orange too even though that wasn't in the original drawing. Because it would match the feet better, and looks less messy. The paint is a little crooked, but I think I did well considering I am not that experienced in painting.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- SKETCHING AND LINE ART -
I started sketching the art for on the posters. I wanted this character to have infinite outfits. So I chose 3 game genres and gave him an outfit with the theme of that genre. For the pose, I could've just traced over an already finished drawing and give that a different outfit. but I didn't want to do that. Infinite possibilities also means infinite poses and personalities! These are the poses I came up with.
The line art is usually on the layer above the sketch. But I like cleaning up the sketch and turning it into line art instead. It's important that I draw the character the exact same style as the other drawings. And after a long time of erasing and drawing lines, I think it turned out pretty nice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- POSTERS -
This is what the final product looks like.
3 posters with 3 games. A sporting game, a horror game, and a first person shooter game. I purposefully chose game genres that are not similar at all, to prove how many possibilities there are with this character. I printed these posters out in the makerspace and I will display them on small easels.

The first poster is about a sporting game. I gave it a tracksuit because that's usually what people wear when sporting. But I wasn't going to give it the boring grey tracksuit, so I gave it bright colours to match the character. I tried to make his expression a mix between determination and happiness. so you can tell he's a worthy competitor. The nametag on his shirt says "trainer", but I must've accidentally flipped the canvas when I was exporting it. whoops.
Last but not least, i have the first person shooter. this is probably the most popular genre in the game idustry. so i felt it might be importsnt to put it in. this drawing is my personal favorite because the shading on thr armour is simple but powerfull.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- FEEDBACK -
I presented my project to a bunch of classmates. this was their feedback:

"I love your art style, its very satisfying to look at."
"You have a lot of different things made about the character, which is impressive."
"your Behance looks a little wonky."

It was mostly positive feedback. the Behance was wonky because I wasn't done with it yet so that's fixed too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ANIMATION -
I also made a short animation that explains how I made everything. the quality of the original animation is a lot better but I'm going to put a lower resolution here because otherwise Behance starts tweaking out.
