Intro to Creative Writing - Assignment Three - "Obsolete"

After the attack, Buddy was never the same. He could no longer do what he was programmed to do and was being sent to the Scrapyard. For years, his owner would use Buddy as security for the house. Ever since, the bombs dropped, scavengers and survivors would try to break into the house and raid the place; Buddy stopped every single one. He was reliable, dependable, and useful.
One night, when the curfew whistle went off, Buddy detected movement on the front lawn from an unknown assailant. Upon investigating, Buddy was shot from afar in one of his memory banks from a sniper. Upon the outlaw of guns, makeshift weapons became pretty popular. Buddy got back up and fought back at the intruder on the front lawn, but the sniper was still at large. Shot number two pierced through Buddy’s leg, limiting his movement. Buddy still fought back. The final shot pierced the head, where all CPU functions took place. Buddy stumbled and stumbled again. Everything in his body was shutting down or overheating. He couldn’t keep going. He let his owner down.
The next morning, the police showed up to investigate. Buddy’s owner was found dead inside the home after Buddy was shot down. One shot in the head from a close range pistol. The house was looted and most food, medicine, and clothing was gone. The cleanup crew arrived and put Buddy in the back of the van and was sent to be discarded at the Scrapyard.
Days, weeks, and months went by after being discarded like common trash. Until one faithful day, a hobbyist engineer found Buddy among the miles of robot parts. The young man dusted Buddy off and said, “don’t worry, big guy. I’ll find you a purpose again”.
