This is the story of a young woman who trades her new born child to another faith so that in return, the life of her own mother is spared. The child is wrenched away, and her mother the frail old lady is abused and quartered on the slimy deck. As the horrified young woman slipped and fainted into the sea among the severed limbs of her people, only one thought fuelled her heart to pump. So strongly that the sea around lit up and kept her afloat. One singular thought.

Some historians paint Vasco De Gama as an explorer, soldier, statesman, which he was in measures. However, his dark side left a shadow so terrible and evil that that the very horrors of the inquisition paled. Surviving the darkest of his acts, from the debris of a murdered ship, sinking in the bloodied Arabian Sea, came a sign. A sign so bold that Vasco and his friar detective Alfredo shuddered at its sudden onslaught. Vasco’s brother is butchered and so are many of his henchmen. A dark cloud hung over Calicut. The trail of pepper swept towards Father Alfredo and his dark Saints. Savio, the man-hound sets out. In ruthless strides he squeezed out information from an entire coast. The utter delight of finding a clue found him in a grove.

It is when his beloved Savio is found all slit up that Father Alfredo realizes where the story was going. But by then it was too late. She was at his door asking for her son.
