There is always a story behind everything. Sometimes the stories are
simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all of
them will always be a woman's story; because hers is where your story
began.
There are people who still believe that we don't need feminism today, and
there couldn't be anything further from the truth. Women have fought for
equality and against oppression for centuries, and while some battles have
been partly won (such as the right to vote and equal access to education),
women are still disproportionately affected by all forms of violence and
discrimination in all aspects of life.
Making use of the harmony of primary colors and mixtures that they
generate, "I want to be in a dress, not in a bag" is part of a collection of
watercolor paintings that seeks to tell a story together with the contrast
generated by the lights of different colors, with a common focal point:
THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN.
A look that says a thousand words, or rather, a look that has lived through
thousands of situations and labels. Overwhelmed by so many external
demands, women suffer, but they suffer in solitude, as social demands
delimit the way in which they can suffer and the blame falls on them. The
woman's suffering generates a tense and disturbing atmosphere, since as
a theme that crosses experiences and bodies, she tends to feel identified.
The true face of "I want to be in a dress, not in a bag!" is revealed in
the darkness by integrating colored lights. The story begins with the
green light revealing the labels that the woman has lived, and then
emphasizes with the blue color the feeling of drowning, representing
all those who have been forced to remain silent, those who have been
murdered without being found and all those who fear dominates them
and does not allow them to find a way out and, finally, the red light
that reveals a woman crouched with her legs bent, manifesting
suffering, harassment, indifference, silence, a cry for help and not
being able to find a way out; situations that we have witnessed either
by a family member, an acquaintance, or in the flesh.
