Norwegian Railway - Navigation System

NSB (Norwegian Railway)
 Navigation System

NSB is the Norwegian railway public transport.
Within the period of 2011-2014,  NSB has made the biggest change ever in the history of Norwegian public transport.
The entire east zone of Norway including the center of Oslo has been updated, new stations have been established and train traffic intensified resulting in shorter waiting time and better spread over the territory.

The extremely complex system had to be translated into an intelligible, user-friendly navigation tool for the final customer.
Absolutely fundamental was the creation of a visual code as simple as possible, readable by everybody (despite education  and/or  physical disabilities) in the shortest amount of time, flexible and expandable in the future.

The effort  was aimed to the final user’s involvement, with the creation of  a consistent visual language able to guide the passenger through all the connection points: from the mobile app to the map in the leaflet to the screen on the platform.

It took almost one year of intensive researches, work and tests to develop, design and implement  the complete visual navigation system,  resulting in a huge positive feedback by millions of passengers.

Done while at Uniform Strategisk Design, Oslo in collaboration with Truls Lange at Civitas.
