Woman Rage
The dark side of women's life in Kazakhstan
"What happens in Kazakhstan is a silent femicide, pulled out of the sight to "not ruin the mood". Even in the happiest days, when by a wonderful coincidence there is no news about killed or sexually assaulted women, we all secretly grieve over each of these sisters, mothers, daughters, girlfriends and women. We carry the pain.
We carry the wrath.
Dark, scary, brutal wrath."

The idea of this photo shoot came to Zhaniya Fazylova through the problem of domestic violence and overall women assault in Kazakhstan. The project is meant to illustrate the power of women's rage and to demonstrate how fierce a woman can be while protecting herself.
The visual inspiration for this photoshoot was the works of Michelangelo Caravaggio, specifically Judith Beheading Holofernes. We used our set by recreating the aesthetic of his paintings while leaving hints of the Kazakh culture through pialas, clothing and national headpieces.
For the makeup, we didn't want anything specific, just a clean monotone face with some clear shades on the eyes. We didn't want to take the focus off of the main idea and the storyline of the scene. So I went for a natural look, didn't use any blush or fake lashes, just tone, contouring, simple brow styling, some easy mono-colour for lids and nude matte lipstick.
Here's the results!
