Watch how your favourite art is being born
"The artist is not just a master, they are an emotional alchemist capable of pulling out the deepest worries of the soul. Every click of the shutter, every line, is a heart whisper entering the light.
Just like flowers blooming through their skin, every petal is a moment of overcoming; every bud is the birth of a new idea.
The art is a map for soul labyrinths where every scene is a step towards recovery. Please remember that it isn't just a pretty picture; it is a healing embrace of the author towards their inner storm."
Hanahaki is a fictional disease characterized by coughing out flower petals. The condition is caused by experiencing unrequited love. In some variations, flowers can start growing through the person's skin.
The idea for this photoshoot came from Zhaniya Fazylova - a creative photographer (and, in this case, a model) from Kazakhstan. She wanted to illustrate artist's love-hate relationships with their job and art. Sometimes, artists have to risk their physical and mental health and push themselves to the edge to gain results or create something special. Thus, these flowers blooming through her skin are meant to illustrate the pain of the creation of something beautiful and precious.

The creation of this makeup look was highly inspired by Emanuele Petrini - an Italian digital creator and freelance makeup artist. The main issue of the makeup was the materials: Zhaniya wanted to use natural flowers that are way too heavy and firm to put them on such a volumetric thing as a human face. We had to use an enormous amount of lash glue and watch closely for the movement of mimic lines to keep everything in place. Spirit gum would work much better for this idea, but the photoshoot was organized in a few days, and I didn't have time to get it.
For the eye makeup, I used a red pencil and eyeshadows to create an "illness" effect. For the illusion of underskin sprouts, I used a very light concealer shade and a mix of red and warm brown tones to create shades.
