Designer Xia Kai comes up with LUNA Audio, a Bluetooth-ready radio and speaker featuring a digital, vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) and a fabric strap so people can carry it anywhere, like a handbag. A fashion accessory and a portable device in one, LUNA Audio’s Bluetooth radio plays any music when the user pairs it up with their smartphone to use one of the music-streaming apps.
Xia Kai’s radio slash speaker also uses its vacuum fluorescent display to flash the time, frequency, and mode of use. This display even flickers its colorful ambient lighting on the backside, making it a suitable technicolor lamp for homeor spaces. Whenever the user walks around carrying the device like a handbag, one side lights up a spectrum of color, indicating the onlookers that some festive dancing and vibing might be passing their way.
XIA KAI USES SAMSUNG TV’S ACOUSTIC UNITS
Xia Kai adopts Samsung TV’s acoustic units and settings for LUNA Audio. The Bluetooth radio then is paired with acoustic algorithms, tuned by expert acousticians, to enable the device to play surround and high-quality sounds on the go. Combining fashion and technology springs to Xia Kai’s design process, hence the addition of the fabric strap resembling synthetic leather to transform the radio into a handbag. The designer shares with designboom that the strap is made of premium fabric materials, and because of the light-colored palette and shades evoking home entertainment, LUNA Audio may fit into any corner of the user’s home or spaces.
SWITCH FROM PERSONAL MUSIC TO AM AND FM RADIO
Thanks to its strap, LUNA Audio is a portable handbag device. The Bluetooth radio comes with a large 4,790mAh battery that allows for over eight hours of audio playback. Refined, brass-colored knobs feature three playback modes, a Bluetooth pairing for quick audio playback, as well as AM and FM radio functionalities.
If the user wants to take a break listening to their own music from their smartphone, they can easily switch the Bluetooth mode off and let the handbag radio just play the AM and FM radio with local frequencies. The tuning knob also allows them to select their preferred audio programs and includes an automatic station search function. As of publishing the story, Xia Kai is slated to set up the online campaign for LUNA Audio, so interested fans can track the progress of the design process and production of the Bluetooth handbag radio and speaker.
