"Fragments in Color" series

artist statement

My work is a reflection of what I feel, who I am, where I've come from, and purely, what I make of it. These works are meant to excite and drive the viewer to create an understanding of their own. This collection is centered around the reality of the unknown of our past--we may know where we've come from, the land or region, stories from the past, but truly, we do not know who our relatives were.

I have come from many generations that I know little to nothing about; I can understand the facts, but there are gaps, missing pieces to this magnificent puzzle. These works are meant to reflect my wonder and my lack of understanding, to represent the disconnect between myself and my ancestors. My work is my own and I understand what drives me to create what I do, but my hope is for these pieces to push the limits of what is ordinary and move the viewer to ask questions and linger in their interpretation. I do not desire to plainly expose every aspect of my colorful family history, but rather allow my work to encourage the viewer however it may.
