COLLAGE ILLUSTRATION FOR THE BOOK 'CULTOS'
[PT] Em 2023 fui convidada pela editora Darkside Books para ilustrar a edição brasileira do livro 'Cultish' da Amanda Montell (com tradução em português por Verena Cavalcante). Foram 8 colagens que serviram de suporte para o livro que traz um estudo profundo sobre como a linguagem pode ser manipulada para criar um senso de comunidade, reforçar valores coletivos, impedir o debate, ou até mesmo incentivar comportamento nocivo em nome da ideologia.
Utilizando a técnica da colagem digital, busquei traduzir nas composições gráficas o tema de cada capítulo; grafismos se mesclam com as fotos manipuladas e texturas criam dimensão para as composição que mesclam a organicidade das imagens com a geometria das formas recortadas de papel.
[EN] In 2023 I was invited by the publisher Darkside Books to illustrate the Brazilian edition of the book 'Cultish' by Amanda Montell (translated into Portuguese by Verena Cavalcante). There were 8 collages that served as support for the book, which provides an in-depth study of how language can be manipulated to create a sense of community, reinforce collective values, prevent debate, or even encourage harmful behavior in the name of ideology.
Using the digital collage technique, I sought to translate the theme of each chapter into graphic compositions; graphics mix with the manipulated photos and textures create dimension for the compositions that mix the organicity of the images with the geometry of the shapes cut out of paper.
