Izzy Hettmansperger, What's Under My Skin?

Polymer clay, human hair

Gender is confusing.

It's all about society, but it's all about my body too.

This work is a warped self portrait that reflects my body in playful and disturbing ways. I wanted to give life to my transness, using external anatomy to embody internal feelings.

These silly little guys are imaginative embodiments of my gender. I hope you can hear them running and slithering around - all that's missing is a bit of magic. The universe is a wizard, and it has cursed me to tend to these creatures.
