Ideation
Problem
In Berlin, the inefficiency of non-automated garbage collection has become a significant challenge. Traditional garbage pickup trucks operate without knowledge of whether the garbage drums at each collection point are full or empty. This lack of data results in unnecessary traffic congestion, increased fuel consumption, and additional operational expenses, including the need for extra trucks and driver salaries. In addition to the challenges posed by non-automated garbage collection in Berlin, authorities currently lack any tracking system for the trucks involved. Tasks are assigned manually, and there are no status updates provided during the operation. This outdated approach not only hampers the overall efficiency of garbage collection but also leads to a lack of accountability and transparency in the process.
Propose Solution
We propose an innovative IoT solution designed to revolutionize garbage collection operations in Berlin. Our solution provides live data from garbage drums, offering real-time insights into their fill levels – whether empty, half-full, or full. By harnessing this valuable data, authorities can optimize garbage pickup routes, ensuring that trucks are dispatched only to targeted points where collection is needed. This IoT solution not only automates the operation but also addresses the inefficiencies and challenges associated with non-automated garbage collection. With streamlined processes, reduced traffic congestion, and minimized operational costs, our solution supports authorities in achieving greater efficiency and sustainability in waste management practices, ultimately leading to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly city.
