STORY
Nang Songkran comprises seven daughters of Thao Kabillaprom, also known as the Songkran King. They are angels residing in the Four Maharajika Heaven, which is the first of the six heavenly realms. It is their duty to carry Thao Kabillaprom's head in a procession around Mount Meru each year, specifically on Songkran day. The determination of who leads the procession on Songkran day depends on the day of the week on which April 13th falls; the Nang Songkran associated with that particular day leads the procession.
นางสงกรานต์ เป็นธิดาของท้าวกบิลพรหม หรือท้าวมหาสงกรานต์ และเป็นนางฟ้าอยู่บนสรวงสวรรค์ชั้นจาตุมหาราช (สวรรค์ชั้นที่ 1 ในทั้งหมด 6 ชั้น) ซึ่งมีหน้าที่ในการรับศรีษะของท้าวกบิลพรหมแห่รอบเขาพระสุเมรุในแต่ละรอบปี หรือในวันสงกรานต์นั้นเอง โดยมีเกณฑ์กำหนดที่ว่าวันสงกรานต์ คือวันที่ 13 เมษายน ตรงกับวันใดก็ให้นางสงกรานต์ประจำวันนั้นเป็นผู้แห่ นางสงกรานต์มีทั้งหมด 7 องค์
