The Dove Fantastic
Based on a story from a woman who moved from Scotland's Lake District when she was just 17 and got a job at Eaton's downtown. She claimed that everyone there was a hawk or a dove, a hunter or passive.
Leaves and Feathers
From a day last year when my then 2 year old and I went for a walk in the woods. A gust of wind came and from one side of tree the leaves blew off which startled a group of birds that was resting in the tree. It was beautifully choatic.
Solitude
A friend was going through a very hard time after his father's death and a bunch of other things happening in his life. He exclaimed to me one day that some days he felt like the darkness was growing in on his life but that others he could rip through the darkness like fabric to see hope in the future.
Swift Flight
Capturing the life of a friend who works shift work in the airline industry. Never knowing if it's day or night, which is up and which is down but always, like an owl with a swivel neck, being focused on the task at hand.
Wooded
In my times teaching on Native Reserves in Northern Canada I had numerous outstanding adventures. Some involving wolves, others caribou. I was told stories of the skies coming alive and about a shattered past.
Sustenance
I heard a story about a group of children in a war torn African country who has made tent like shelters in the bones of giraffes. This piece to me captures young growth coming from the shadow of previous life.
Ursa Major, Ursa Minor
A young Russian mother once told me that her goal in life was to be a great mother bear. The idea that taking her daughter alongside her to learn her life by example gave her immense joy.
Canadian Zebra
A child once explained to another child in a class I was teaching that a zebra was like a moose or caribou hidden behind sticks.
Geobear
Based on one of my more memorable adventures, the Geobear captures the time ingenuity and a post party bear met.
