Crispy Cones: Transforming News Videos with After Effects
This project was to design a motion graphic to go along with a news video. In my case, it was on the growing company Crispy Cones. In this design I had three requirements.First was to play around with lower thirds. Second, was to display data that was mentioned and finally to have a kinetic text to make the content pop. I also had to animate the INs and OUTS of each graphic. This was all to be done within illustrator and after effects. Each element was crafted to catch the eye and keep viewers hooked.
The Sketches
I began to take my ideas to paper. I first came up with multiple storyboards that would help me to create what I needed on the computer. I watched the news story multiple times to get a good idea of what I wanted to put into the computer. Next, I sketched out my assets.I began to sketch multiple ideas of cones and different ways I could make them more appealing in illustrator. These sketches later helped me finalize my assets within illustrator.
My Drafts
I began to take what I had drawn and start illustrating it in my Adobe programs. I first created my assets and I wanted it to have the same color palette. Mostly pastels with a simplistic design. I then crafted a draft using after effects. I applied all the requirements, but I did receive very helpful critiques. Some said that there is a long space between the first and next animation. Others said that the OUTS of my motion were a little powerpoint like and that I forgot to add one to my last animation. I used these critiques to finalize my draft into my finale.
My Finale
In the end I put together motion graphics that went along with a news story covering Crispy Cones. In the beginning I added a lower third text. The next graphic was a kinetic text show casing Shark Tank. Finally the last two is data being animated to help vizualize what she is saying. I also used the critiques to help edit my draft. Instead of the long pause I added a fun animation. I fixed the timings of the OUTS and tried to make everything more visually appealing. In the end it all came together to make this video.
