heart of the lake || March 2024

She had always been fascinated by the shimmering blue water that reflected the sky and the trees. She loved to watch the ripples and the waves, the fish and the birds, the sun and the moon. She longed to touch the water, to feel its coolness and its life. But she knew she could not. She was a dryad, a spirit of the forest, bound to her oak tree. She could only wander as far as her roots reached, and the lake was beyond her reach. But one day, she heard a rumor from a passing nymph. There was something in the lake, something precious and powerful, something that could grant any wish. It was called the 'heart of the lake', and it was hidden in its deepest depths. The nymph said that only a brave and clever soul could find it and claim it.

The dryad felt a surge of curiosity and desire. She wanted to see the 'heart of the lake', to touch it and to make a wish. She wanted to be free of her tree, to explore the world, to swim in the water. She decided to take a risk and to try to steal the 'heart of the lake'. She waited until nightfall, when the moon was full and bright, hoping that no one would notice her. She reached the shore and gazed at the water. It was calm and clear, reflecting the moonlight. She took a deep breath and plunged into the water. It was cold and wet, but she felt a thrill of excitement. She found it at last. It was a glowing orb of light, pulsing with energy. It was beautiful and mesmerizing. She reached out her hand and grabbed it. She felt a shock of pain and pleasure, as if she had touched fire and ice at the same time. She felt a surge of power, as if she had become one with the lake. She smiled and made her wish. She wished to be free of her tree, to explore the world, to swim in the water. She got her wish.
But she also lost something. She lost her connection to her tree, to her forest, to her kind. She lost her identity as a dryad, as a spirit of nature. She became something else, something new.

She became the 'heart of the lake'.
