This project was based on two current political, social, economic or environmental concerns that I felt most inclined to make a statement on, and using collage methods to create visual commentary on these issues.

Images were collected through online research and in found printed material. Traditional techniques were used to create two 12x18" collages with distinct commentary. The collages were then converted to digital format, and one was selected and enlarged to a 24x36" printed poster.

The focus of my commentary is on the US political + social divide, and the difficulties women face while seeking healthcare. Inspiration can be found in my Dropmark.
The "Great Political Divide" in the US is causing irreparable destruction. Republican Party values and influence have seeped into parts of our lives that should not be controlled by politics, and many human rights issues are unaddressed or provoked. Our minority and most vulnerable populations have suffered by the laws in place and overall systemic flaws. Meanwhile, certain political figures have no consequences from the laws that are NOT enforced. Lady Liberty – an icon of American freedom, hope, and justice – is forced in the middle of the "Great Divide," and her torch is no longer lighting a path to liberty and justice for ALL.
In the US, it is common to experience mistreatment as a woman seeking healthcare, especially when it's related to our pain. It's unfortunately something I've personally experienced with a delayed diagnosis of a serious disease. Women's pain is often disregarded, even when it's severe. We're told our pain is normal, or maybe we're just anxious or too "sensitive." Feeling unheard or simply not believed can lead one to feel trapped by the pain they're experiencing. This collage was inspired by the many years of pain remedies, less answers, and continuing to feel judged with each new appointment until I was finally helped.
