Cast-Out Kitchen
Multi-Visual Logo
The design problem for this project was to use word association lists and drawn thumbnails in order to combine two visual signs into a logo. For my word association lists, I began with “pescatarian” and “restaurant.” After finding all words that I associated with each of these starter words, I ended up combining “fish” and “kitchen.”
My solution was to create a logo featuring a skillet that appeared to be tossing its contents. Its contents include a wave of water, that can also be interpreted as fire, alongside a small fish falling out of the wave. This logo image is accompanied by the text “Cast-Out Kitchen” which is the name of the hypothetical pescatarian restaurant I came up with for this project. The name of the restaurant was further tweaked after creating the word association lists. Customers want fresh fish when ordering seafood from a restaurant, and the best way to express that the fish is fresh is by making reference to fishing within the restaurant’s title. That is how I decided on Cast-Out Kitchen to accompany my logo.
