'Finding the Matiaki' is a smartphone application designed to help modern-day Children and Families getting in touch with nature. It promotes environmental awareness. Not by regulations and restricitions but by fun and excitement.

Many children grow up in big cities excluded from nature and most parents are not able to pass on vital natural experiences to their children, because they didn't make any themselves. 'Finding the Matiaki' is a fun and exciting way to rediscover nature and to experience why it's so important to preserve it.

What does the App do?

'Finding the Matiaki' is a mobile game similar to a scavenger hunt. The App features a GPS based Map for better orientation and an Augmented Reality Scanner to create a new and unique way of outdoor adventure. There is also an integrated Reward-System to encourage repetition.

As a special feature the App changes its colours according to the current season. This way the natural cycles are reflected within the App.

How does it work?

The purpose of the game is to find the 'Matiaki' who is hidden somewhere within the local countryside
(e.g. in a nearby forest or nature park).

The 'Matiaki' is a small relative of the Wolpertinger (a german version of the Jackalope). He is a shy little creature and very difficult to spot. To find him you have to activate the App and follow the markings on the Map. When you arrive at the designated location try to find the hidden 'Matiaki-Symbol'. Did you find it? Great! Now activate your Detector (AR-Scanner) to bring the mystic creature to life right infront of you. For every new Symbol you are rewarded with an awesome Badge to proof your success.

As the App, the 'Matiaki' changes his appearence with the seasons. So don't be suprised, he might look different whenever you find him.

What are Badges?

Badges are the reward for a successfull scavenger hunt. They are designed like Scout-Badges and are not only collectibles but provide additionall information on nature and environement.

The games goal is to collect as many different Badges as possible and with every new Badge comes an exciting outdoor experience!
