RIO TURBIO IV
THE LOST VALLEY

The famous "Ear Wall", a challenging granito wall. But don't let perspective trick you, at that point we had 4 more hours of trekking until "Don Chile" the last hut and camp site. When we got there these walls were still far away from us.
They are gigantic, imposible to explain what our eyes saw up there.
Let's start from the beginning. This is Osvaldo, one of the first explorers of this place. He received us at his home, and on the next day drove us to the Lago Puelo where we took a lake transfer to the start of our journey.
After getting ready the loads on Lahuan's horses with food for nine days, and everything settled,  our adventure began. Five hours later we arrived to the first camp site, with this amazing beach on the side of the river.
Day two of trekking and wading awaited us, so we got up really early and headed to the river to continue our journey.  While we waited for the entire crew to cross the river, Gabriel found some bones, and pretended to be at a masquerade party.
When we got to the second night camp site, Lahuan was waiting us with this delicious dinner.
Saying goodbye to the river for a while. Getting ready to get immersed into the forest.
Gabriel guided us on this part of the trail, we were about to enter his backyard. Headed up to "Don Roppo" the first hut.
Home for the next two nights.
When we got to Don Roppo, Sebastián de la Cruz, one of the best rock climbers of his times, was waiting us with a tray full of "torta fritas" and some delicious mates, that where much appreciated after a really long and exhausting journey
On the trail to "Don Chule" the only way to cross the river is this ziplane, so we put on our harness and Gabriel waited for us on the other side.
Cerro Fénix, and some avalanche deposits from last winter, where part of the eclectic landscape we came across.
The last part of the trekking from day five, dense forests, endless valleys, and "Don Chile" hut, our home for the next two nights.
We finally made it, we were at "The Ear" wall. And as I told you, it was still pretty far from us. And you could barely recognize the ear.
On day six, Gabriel put on his sole boots on and took us to walk around the valley, the plan was to get to some lagoons we saw on the map, we didn't make it. Instead we got to see closer some of the rocky walls, full of textures and faces. They looked amazing.
After having lunch and mates with this view, we decided it was time to go back to the hut, to get our stuff ready for next day.
We hiked to a lookout spot, to watch the last minutes of the sunset, where the sun painted the rocks with different tones as it disappears behind the mountains.
Saying goodbye to this beautiful valley. We'll see you soon.
Day nº seven was all about getting back home. We walked down from "Don Ropo", to the boats that we had hidden at thew forest. We had six hours of slow rafting ahead. As it was a really calm trip, El Negro took out his rustic fishing kit and got some trouts for his dinner.
When we got to Pueblo lake, a boat was waiting for us. We shared our ride with Amalia and Pablo, two amazing humans from Córdoba. After this, a three hour roadtrip awaited us before we could say we have arrived home.
Being there felt like it would be normal to watch a dinosaur drinking water at the river. I would risk to say it was the first time I felt so small. Can't wait to be back to discover the end of the valley and its mysterious lagoons.
It's a place from where you don't want to return soon.
